No Time to Die (2021): the poster
Film posters
What you need to know
The main poster for Daniel Craig's last Bond film, released in UK cinemas in September 2021 after delays during the pandemic.
Media language: the arrangement of the main characters around Bond, colour and lighting, typography and the 007 logo, and how the poster uses and varies action and spy conventions.
Representation: a more vulnerable Bond; the female characters, including Nomi, a new 00 agent played by Lashana Lynch; the villain; and how they compare with the 1974 poster's representations of gender and ethnicity, comparing specific choices in both posters.
Contexts: changing expectations of gender and diversity in Hollywood blockbusters.
In the exam a copy of the product is provided, and it can be set for Question 1 (media language, 15 marks), for Question 2(a) (contexts, 5 marks) or for Question 2(b), where it is compared with an unseen product in the same form (representation, 25 marks). The film's industry side, for Section B, is a separate lesson.
Describe the poster precisely in your own words, quoting no more than a few words of its text.
