Paper 1 Questions 1 and 4: finding information
Paper 1 reading questions
What you need to know
The short AO1 questions: Question 1 (4 marks) asks for four points from the whole of Text 1, Question 4(a) (2 marks) for two things from given lines of Text 2, and Question 4(b) (2 marks) for two things a reprinted extract from Text 2 suggests rather than states.
Answering from the right text and lines, briefly, in your own words or short quotations, and why 4(b) needs an inference rather than a quotation on its own.
The worked example uses two linked texts about exercise and getting fit, both printed in the lesson: Text 1, the introduction to Eugen Sandow's fitness guide 'Strength and How to Obtain It' (1897), and Text 2, from William Blaikie's 'How to Get Strong and How to Stay So' (1883), which argues for physical education in every school.
Answers that would and would not earn the marks, and why.
