Penetrating Properties of Radiation
What you need to know
Recall and contrast the penetrating capabilities of alpha particles, beta particles, and gamma rays through various materials.
Describe how alpha particles exhibit low penetration and are easily absorbed by a thin sheet of paper or a few millimeters of air.
Describe how beta particles can penetrate air and paper but are completely absorbed by thin sheets of metal.
Understand that gamma rays are highly penetrating and require thick lead or several meters of concrete to be significantly absorbed.
