Informal carer

Informal carers may reduce paid hours or leave employment to support someone else. JRF reported a poverty rate of 28% among informal carers, compared with 20% among people without caring responsibilities in 2022/23. Gender helps explain who is more exposed to caring responsibilities, but does not determine every individual's circumstances.
