Paper 1, Paper 2
Revise: Practical Issues in ResearchThree central issues are time, cost and access.
Component 1
The ability to reach the people, group or setting that a researcher wants to study.
Identify who controls access, then explain how their decision affects the research. Naming a headteacher alone does not explain the role of a gatekeeper.
Distinguish refusal from conditional access: a gatekeeper may allow research only if the researcher changes the method, questions or participants.

A sociologist may have a clear research question and a suitable method but still be unable to begin. They first need access: the ability to reach the people or setting they want to study.
