Many Christians understand equality to mean that a woman who has the gifts and vocation to lead should have the same opportunity as a man. Others believe that men and women have equal worth before God but different responsibilities. This distinction helps explain why a church might value women’s work highly while reserving the priesthood for men.
A calling, understood by Christians as coming from God, to a particular way of life or service.
