The eternal duty or eternal way; a name for Hinduism that also expresses enduring principles of right living.
Revise: Human LifeSanatana dharma means the eternal duty or eternal way. Many Hindus use it as a name for Hinduism. It expresses the idea that right living rests on enduring spiritual truths and values, rather than simply on personal preference.
For sanatana dharma, remember ‘eternal law’ or ‘eternal duties’, not simply an individual’s responsibilities.
Distinguish universal duties in sanatana dharma from duties associated with social role and stage of life in varnashramadharma.
