Revise: Paintings, Frescos, and DrawingsThe Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 2502, teaches that genuine sacred art draws people ‘to adoration, to prayer, and to the love of God’. Its religious purpose therefore goes beyond making a building attractive. An image should help the observer turn towards God, rather than treating the artwork itself as divine.
