Mainstream Orthodox rabbis are men. A rabbi is a religious teacher and community leader, so this distinction concerns authority as well as who leads worship. Orthodox Judaism also places considerable importance on women's contribution to passing on Jewish faith and practice within the family; public leadership is not regarded as the only valuable form of religious responsibility.
