Foreshadowing

Foreshadowing points readers towards something that will happen later. Jesus’ announcement prepares readers for the religious leaders’ condemnation, his transfer to Roman authority, the humiliation inflicted on him and his death by crucifixion. The later passion narrative makes these predicted events concrete.
