Revise: Use and Abuse of the EnvironmentPeople depend on the environment for food, water, materials and energy. Using these resources is not automatically wrong: timber can provide shelter, and energy can support transport and daily life. The ethical question is whether people use the environment responsibly or damage it through waste, pollution and excessive consumption.
Distinguish using the environment from abusing it: explain the harm caused, rather than assuming that every use of a resource is wrong.
Do not assume that all religious people agree, or that non-religious people lack reasons to protect the environment.
