Drama

Definition

The use of performed words, actions and characters to communicate a story or meaning.

Drama communicates through performed words and actions. Instead of only hearing an account of a biblical event, an audience sees characters make decisions, suffer and respond to God. This can make beliefs easier to understand and encourage an emotional response, reflection or prayer.

Use Catechism 2567 accurately: it describes prayer as a ‘covenant drama’, not a command to perform religious plays.

When discussing different settings, explain their benefits and limitations rather than simply listing places where drama happens.

When evaluating drama, compare its benefits with its limitations and explain your judgement. Avoid assuming that all Christians use drama in the same way.
