Paper 1
Revise: Prejudice and Discrimination in HinduismDalits were traditionally excluded from the four-varna system. They experienced ‘untouchability’: discrimination based on the belief that contact with them caused ritual pollution. This is not simply a distinction between occupations; it denies people equal participation and dignity.
Do not describe Dalits as a fifth varna: they were traditionally excluded from the four-varna system.
