The belief that men and women have differences which can contribute to their partnership, without making either sex inferior.
Catholic teaching also recognises complementarity: differences between men and women can contribute to their partnership without implying unequal worth. This does not establish a rule that every household task must be allocated by sex. Fathers have an important responsibility to be involved in their children’s upbringing, not simply to earn money.
