Amitayus

The Amitayus Meditation Sutra, also called the Contemplation Sutra, gives visualisation a central religious purpose. Amitayus means ‘Infinite Life’ and is another name for the Buddha known as Amitabha or Amida. In the narrative, the imprisoned Queen Vaidehi wishes to be born in his Pure Land and asks the Buddha to teach her how to visualise it.
