969 Movement

The 969 Movement, whose prominent leader was the monk Wirathu, claimed that Myanmar’s Muslim minority threatened the Buddhist majority. It called on Buddhists to boycott Muslim-owned shops and avoid social contact with Muslims. Supporters also campaigned for restrictions on interfaith marriage.
