Revise: CorrelationAnother problem is a third variable. A stressful job might be associated with reduced sleep or increased smoking and drinking. These behaviours could contribute to illness, helping to explain the relationship between stress and absence.
When evaluating a correlation, explain why it cannot establish cause and effect. Apply reverse causation or a possible third variable to the situation given.
