Revise: Language and Thought RelationshipLanguage is a system of words and rules used to communicate meaning. Thought is mental activity involved in forming ideas, understanding concepts and reasoning. They are closely connected: we often use words when thinking, and we use language to express ideas.
Keep the direction of the relationship clear: Piaget proposes that language depends on thought; Sapir–Whorf proposes that thinking depends on language.
When evaluating, explain why a point supports or challenges the theory. A relationship between language and thought does not, by itself, show which caused which.
