Definition

The percentage of pairs in which both individuals share the characteristic being studied, such as alcohol addiction.

Researchers compare their concordance rates: the percentages of pairs in which both twins have the characteristic being studied. If MZ twins show higher concordance for alcohol addiction than DZ twins, this supports a hereditary contribution because MZ twins are more genetically similar.
