Paper 1
Revise: Environmental and Global Issues in Energy UseA trend describes the overall direction of change over time.
Specification 3.14 · Paper 1
A general direction of change shown by data over time, such as a rise or fall.
Revise: Patterns in Energy UseGreater fossil-fuel use also releases more carbon dioxide, contributing to global warming and its risks. These are reasons to consider both future demand and the changing balance of energy resources, rather than assuming that a past upward trend can continue unchanged.
For a trend, name the resource, state how its use changes and give the time period. Do not present a projection as an observed result.
Check the units and dates on a graph before describing a trend. A rise in total energy use does not, by itself, show a rise in energy use per person.
