Revise: Nuclear fusionFor this subtopic, the essential point is qualitative: some of the mass may be converted into the energy of radiation.
Specification P6.2e · Paper 2 (Foundation), Paper 4 (Higher)
Energy carried away from a source as waves or particles; electromagnetic radiation includes gamma rays.
Revise: Nuclear fusionSome of that energy may be carried away as radiation. This connects the change inside the nuclei to the energy released by fusion, rather than treating fusion as just nuclei sticking together.
For a complete description, link the loss of mass to the energy released as radiation; do not simply say that mass disappears.
When explaining the energy released, state that some mass may be converted into energy carried by radiation.
