A series circuit that shares the supply potential difference between two or more components.

Revise: Sensing Circuits: LDRs and ThermistorsA potential divider contains a sensor and another resistor in series across a d.c. supply. Because series components carry the same current, the supply potential difference is shared between them. The component with the greater resistance has the greater share of the potential difference.
When explaining a potential divider, identify which component the output p.d. is measured across. The response reverses if the output is taken across the other component.
