Specification 7.18P · Paper 1
An extremely dense stellar remnant formed when the collapsed core left by a supernova is not massive enough to become a black hole.
Revise: Star Evolution (Large Mass)A massive star therefore does not normally follow the Sun-like route directly to a white dwarf. Its defining later sequence is red supergiant, supernova, and then either a neutron star or a black hole.
Do not end the sequence at the supernova: state that the remaining core forms a neutron star or, if sufficiently massive, a black hole.
