Electromagnetic radiation between radio waves and infrared in the spectrum, used for communication and for heating food.

Revise: Uses of Radio Waves, Microwaves and InfraredRadio waves, microwaves and infrared are all electromagnetic radiation. They can transfer energy without needing a material to carry them. They can also carry information: a transmitter varies a wave to represent a message, and a receiver detects it.
Do not confuse microwave cooking with satellite communication: oven microwaves are absorbed by water in food, while communication frequencies are chosen to travel through the atmosphere with little absorption.
