Revise: Electrostatic PhenomenaAs the charge separation increases, electrons can suddenly travel through the air between oppositely charged regions. This rapid transfer of charge creates a very large current: lightning. Lightning is therefore an enormous electrostatic discharge rather than charge remaining static indefinitely.
