Revise: Collision Theory of ResistanceA metal consists of a closely packed lattice of positive ions, surrounded by electrons that can move through the material. The ions remain in their lattice positions, although they vibrate about those positions.
For an explanation question, link the whole chain: the wire has resistance; moving electrons collide with ions in the lattice; energy is transferred to the lattice; the ions vibrate more and the wire’s temperature rises.
