A change in an object's shape caused by a force, such as stretching, compression or bending.

Revise: Elastic vs Inelastic DistortionA force can stretch, compress or bend an object. This change of shape is called distortion (or deformation). To tell what kind of distortion has occurred, look at the object after the force has been removed.
Judge the distortion after the force is removed, not while the object is being stretched or compressed.
