Revise: Electric motorsAn electric motor places a current-carrying coil between magnetic poles and allows it to rotate about an axle. Current travels in opposite directions through the two sides of the coil that lie in the magnetic field. Fleming's left-hand rule therefore gives opposite force directions: one side is pushed upwards while the other is pushed downwards.
