Specification 4.3.3.1 · Paper 1
Specification 14.13 · Paper 2
A condition in which the gas remains in a rigid container whose internal space does not change.
Revise: Temperature and PressureConstant volume means that the container does not expand or contract. Keeping these two conditions unchanged lets us isolate the effect of temperature.

A condition in which the space occupied by a gas does not change.
Revise: Particle Motion and Gas PressureThe reverse occurs when the gas is cooled at constant volume. Its molecules have less average kinetic energy and move more slowly. Wall collisions are less frequent and involve smaller momentum changes on average, so the average force and pressure decrease.
State the condition constant volume. It means the container does not expand; normally, the same enclosed gas is also being considered.
Do not say that molecules expand when a gas is heated. The molecules move faster; at constant volume, the size of the container and the space available remain unchanged.
Particles do not become larger when the gas is heated, and pressure does not rise merely because the particles spread out: at constant volume, the container does not get larger.
