Revise: Components of the respiratory systemVentilation is the movement of air into and out of the lungs. Gas exchange is the movement of oxygen from the air in the lungs into the blood, and carbon dioxide from the blood into the lungs to be breathed out.
For an explanation of inspiration, link the steps: diaphragm contracts and flattens → more space for the lungs to expand → air is drawn in.
