Revise: Intrinsic and extrinsic motivationIntrinsic motivation comes from within the performer. The performer takes part or tries to improve for pride, self-satisfaction or personal achievement, rather than for a reward provided by someone else.
The drive to take part or achieve that comes from within, such as enjoyment, pride, self-satisfaction or personal achievement.
Use qualified language: intrinsic motivation is generally more effective, while extrinsic rewards may help. Neither outcome is guaranteed.
Distinguish undermining intrinsic motivation from reliance on rewards: one weakens the internal drive; the other makes effort dependent on external rewards.
