Revise: Classification of muscle typesThe three classifications are voluntary muscle in the skeletal system, involuntary muscle in blood vessels and cardiac muscle forming the heart. To compare their characteristics, consider their control, location, fibre structure and contractions. A muscle fibre is a muscle cell.
When explaining why a characteristic matters, link characteristic → effect on the performer → benefit: cardiac muscle is not consciously controlled → the performer need not think about making the heart contract → they can concentrate on techniques or tactics.
Cardiac muscle works involuntarily, but is classified separately from the involuntary smooth muscle in blood vessels.
