Revise: Gender and feminist approachesThe male gaze describes presenting women primarily for the visual pleasure of an assumed heterosexual male viewer. Revealing costume or an emphasis on a woman's body can support this interpretation. A character may have considerable agency while still being sexualised, so being a strong heroine does not automatically remove every feminist criticism.
