Component 2
In Propp’s narrative theory, a character who appears to occupy the hero’s position but is exposed as undeserving of it.
Propp’s character roles offer one possible reading: the Man resembles a false hero, occupying the centre of attention without deserving admiration, while Swift is revealed as the real creative force. This is a useful interpretation, not a requirement to force every character into a Propp role.
