Editorial independence

The Scott Trust Limited, which replaced the original trust in 2008, is the sole shareholder in Guardian Media Group. Its purpose includes safeguarding the newspaper’s financial and editorial independence and liberal values. Profits are reinvested in journalism rather than distributed for the benefit of an individual proprietor or outside shareholders.
