GCSE Mathematics · key term
The agreed quantity used to state a measurement, such as a metre or a second.
Used by Edexcel and OCR
Specification G14 · Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 3
Revise: Measurement UnitsA measurement is a number together with a unit. Saying that a table is 2 long is incomplete; saying it is 2 metres long tells someone its size. Choose a unit that suits what is being measured: millimetres for a small thickness, metres for a room and kilometres for a long journey.
Specification 10.01a · Paper 1 (Foundation), Paper 2 (Foundation), Paper 3 (Foundation), Paper 4 (Higher), Paper 5 (Higher), Paper 6 (Higher)
An agreed quantity used to express a measurement, such as a metre, kilogram, second or pound.
Revise: Standard UnitsA measurement combines a numerical value with a unit.
Write the unit beside every answer. An area needs square units and a volume needs cubic units.
Convert measurements to the same unit before comparing them or using them in a calculation.
Check the direction: changing to smaller units should give a larger number.
