Revise: Circumference and Area of Circles and Composite 2D ShapesFor a polygon, perimeter is found by adding the lengths of its outside edges. A circle has no straight edges, so its perimeter has the special name circumference.

For the perimeter of a semicircle or quarter-circle, include the straight edges as well as the curved arc.
Trace the outside boundary of a composite shape. Do not include internal dividing lines or joined edges in its perimeter.
Convert every length to the same unit before adding, and give the perimeter in a length unit such as cm or m—not a square unit.
