Revise: Rival ClaimantsWith the approval of leading nobles, Harold was crowned at Westminster Abbey on 6 January 1066, the same day that Edward was buried. This rapid coronation established a king immediately and helped Harold secure his position before rivals could act. It did not settle the dispute: William regarded him as a usurper, while Hardrada had his own ambitions.
