Revise: The Decemvirate, the Twelve Tables and the Laws of the 440sAfter the decemvirs’ overthrow, the Twelve Tables were engraved in brass and publicly displayed. Public written rules gave citizens a clearer basis for understanding legal obligations and challenging decisions. Their scope extended well beyond the constitutional conflict: they dealt with court procedure, debt, property, family relationships, offences and funerals.
