Theoric Fund

The Theoric Fund helped poorer Athenians meet the cost of theatrical attendance. This made participation in a major cultural and religious occasion less dependent on personal wealth. It is associated with later fifth-century Athens; its function should be distinguished from uncertain claims about exactly when it began.
