Slave-based economy

A slave-based economy developed when enslaved people’s forced labour became central to production and trade. Enslaved Africans produced valuable exports, but plantation owners controlled the crops and received the proceeds. This was an economic system built on coercion, not a freely agreed exchange of work for wages.
