Revise: Development of Germ TheoryIn 1909, the Japanese scientist Sahachiro Hata retested compounds from Ehrlich’s research and found that compound 606 was effective against syphilis. It became known as Salvarsan 606, the first magic bullet.
A magic bullet was a targeted chemical treatment, not a vaccine. Salvarsan 606 was not penicillin.
