Revise: Etruscan Kings: Accession, Power, and EvidenceA sixth-century potsherd from the Forum bearing rex, and the early inscription associated with the Lapis Niger, provide evidence relevant to kingship. They support the existence of royal authority without verifying the individual accession stories. Physical evidence must also be dated and interpreted: the surviving stone blocks of the so-called Servian walls belong no earlier than the fourth century BC, so their name cannot prove that Servius built those remains.
