Revise: Religious MattersDuring the 1570s, clergy organised meetings called prophesyings, where they prayed and discussed religious teaching. These meetings could include criticism of Elizabeth’s Church. Edmund Grindal, Archbishop of Canterbury, supported them, but Elizabeth regarded them as dangerous and ordered him to suppress them.
