Revise: The Problem of the PoorPoor-relief legislation in 1563 strengthened responsibility for contributing to poor relief. People who refused to contribute could be imprisoned, and Justices of the Peace who failed to collect contributions could be fined. Relief was becoming more than a matter of voluntary generosity.
