Revise: Workers’ RightsThe Trade Disputes and Trade Unions Act 1927 restricted sympathetic strikes and mass picketing, placed restrictions on unions’ political activity and prevented civil service unions from affiliating to the TUC. The defeat therefore weakened unions both immediately, through the failed dispute, and subsequently, through legislation.
