Revise: Spanish in TenochtitlanOn 8 November 1519, Hernán Cortés and his Spaniards entered Tenochtitlan, the capital of Moctezuma’s Aztec Empire. They approached along a causeway across the lake. Crowds gathered among the towers, temples and canoes to watch the newcomers and their horses.
Support descriptions of the relationship with precise details: the exchange of necklaces, comfortable accommodation, interpreters and Moctezuma’s permission for visits.
Do not treat Moctezuma’s welcome as proof that he trusted Cortés, surrendered his authority or believed the Spaniards were gods.
