Revise: Contrasting livesThe middling sort occupied the broad space between this wealthy elite and the poor. In towns they included craftsmen and small business owners; in the countryside they included yeomen who owned and farmed land, often employing labourers. They could live comfortably, but generally worked for their income rather than enjoying the resources of a great estate.
