Macedonian heritage

Macedonian heritage did not mean that the Ptolemies ignored Egyptian traditions. Ptolemy XII had himself depicted in Egyptian style overcoming enemies on the temple of Horus at Edfu. Cleopatra therefore inherited a monarchy which combined a Greek-speaking royal background with Egyptian forms of kingship and religion.
