Revise: Cultural DevelopmentsGeorge Whitefield, an Anglican minister, was an itinerant preacher: he travelled between communities rather than remaining with one congregation. His powerful speaking attracted colonial audiences in 1739–40. Travelling preaching allowed revivalism to reach people outside the routines of their local churches and helped make it a shared experience across the colonies.
